Check out where you can buy the morning-after pill over the counter!
The morning-after pill (or emergency contraception) is a kind of birth control that can prevent pregnancy if you take it soon after you have unprotected sex. Plan B and other brands (like Aftera, My Way, Next Choice One Dose and Take Action) should be available at most drug stores without age restrictions or ID requirements.
We visited pharmacies in the Philadelphia area and in the Lehigh Valley to find out if they had the morning-after pill in stock and if their employees incorrectly said there were age limits or asked for ID. We also found out where the morning-after pill is located within the store and how much it costs. The map below shows you where you can easily get the morning-after pill.*
Click the icons on the map below to find out more about the pharmacies we visited. Green means the pharmacy had the morning-after pill in stock and gave us correct information about who could buy it. Yellow means either the morning-after pill was out-of-stock when we visited OR it was in stock, but an employee gave us wrong information about who can buy it. Red means the pharmacy does not carry the morning-after pill.
*Note: Individuals posing as shoppers gathered this information in the Philadelphia area in July and August 2015 and in the Lehigh Valley in March and April 2016. The map reflects their observations and employees' responses to their questions on the day they visited the pharmacy.
